What is Sea Buckthorn and why did we choose it? Although we'd love to claim credit, we only learned about Sea Buckthorn from our board member Chef Bob Matthews, a renowned international chef well-known in Calgary for his years at La Chaumière, who praised its flavour and nutritional value.

Sea buckthorn is a deciduous shrub known for its bright orange berries and numerous health benefits. These berries are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fatty acids, making them highly nutritious. Sea buckthorn is often used in various forms, including juices, oils, and supplements, and is believed to promote skin health, boost immunity, aid digestion, and support heart health. Additionally, its oil is popular in skincare products for its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. Overall, sea buckthorn is valued for its potential health benefits and versatile applications.

Sea Buckthorn has a bitter and sweet flavour profile that contains citrus notes, while also notes of lightly tropical fruits. We felt this flavour was delicious, interesting and a different option than the typical sugar-packed canned cocktails. We use REAL Sea Buckthorn, not just a flavouring.
